QING DYNASTY, FOUR-CHARACTER QIANLONG MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1735-1796)
LENGTH OF INKSTONE: 8.2CM; LENGTH OF BOX: 9.8CM
The jade is carved in the stylised form of a feng 風 character, an inkstone shape made popular in the Song dynasty. The face of the inkstone has a flat surface and a gradual depression on top forming its well, all framed within a shallow recessed band. The reverse is carved with a four-character 乾隆年製 ‘Qianlong nianzhi’ mark. The khotan green jade is of a pale sage green colour.
